This wakocha, or Japanese black tea, utilizes Yabukita cultivar tea plants, and is grown without the use of pesticides. From the first flush in late spring, farmer Yuki Ogura produces this black tea in the style of first flush Darjeeling tea, withered, rolled, then lightly oxidized.

Sencha Asatsuyu is a single cultivar green tea made from Shizuoka prefecture's asatsuyu cultivar, famous for naturally providing a gyokuro-like taste profile filled with umami richness. It has a mellow sweetness and is often utilised for making high-quality tea.

Of course, one can enjoy this tea hot but the Dobashien Tea Company also recommends to try it cold-steeped during the warmer seasons. When it is cold-steeped, one may be pleasantly surprised at how delicious this tea is, without much/any bitterness. If you do enjoy having a bit of bitterness in your tea, it is recommended to steep the tea with hot water and then to add ice to the tea. Please enjoy this tea in many ways!

The most commonly drunk of all teas in Japan, sencha tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. After they are picked, the leaves are take immediately to to the factory for steaming, rolling, and drying.

In Japan, a high level of skill necessary to create fine sencha. Though the processing of the leaves is entirely mechanized, the machines utilized are built to imitate the handrolling process that turns leaves into fine sencha needles. So, our tea meisters study the handrolling process in order to gain a better understanding and control over the machines used to produce professional-level sencha tea leaves.

From there, our award-winning master blenders taste teas from different farms, filter out stems and dust, sort the leaves by size and gradation, and combine the leaves to create the perfect sencha.
In 1892, Dobashien's founder Tetsugoro Dobashi established a small tea shop in a quiet residential district on the outskirts of Tokyo. As the city expanded, the area known as Akasaka-Mitsuke became one of the city's elite districts with ryotei, luxury Japanese restaurants, hosting meetings between powerful politicians. At these ryotei, only the best tea leaves from Shizuoka and other parts of Japan are served.

Genmaicha or brown rice tea is made by combining genmai (toasted rice) with our Yanagi Bancha. However, we know genmaicha fans may already have their favorite, higher grade senchas, so we sell our genmai separately to allow you to create your own combination. The genmai also makes a delicious garnishing for miso soup, salad, or as a simple, healthy snack.

To make this high quality gyokuro from Chiyonoen in the beautiful mountains of Yame (Fukuoka prefecture), a shelf is built over the tea bushes and straw woven with straw is spread over the entire tea fields. This method is considered one of the traditional shading methods to make gyokuro and is quite rare these days! After being shaded for 20 days, the tea leaves are harvested.

By shading for a long period of time (which is a typical process to make gyokuro), the growth of catechin which creates the bitter taste in tea is suppressed and the umami and richness will be emphasized. To steep this tea, prepare your hot water (or cool off to) 50 ℃ so that the tea leaves are soaked and wait for 2 minutes. Please enjoy the traditional taste and aroma that spreads in your mouth.

To make this high quality gyokuro from Chiyonoen in the beautiful mountains of Yame (Fukuoka prefecture), a shelf is built over the tea bushes and straw woven with straw is spread over the entire tea fields. This method is considered one of the traditional shading methods to make gyokuro and is quite rare these days! After being shaded for 20 days, the tea leaves are harvested.
\n
By shading for a long period of time (which is a typical process to make gyokuro), the growth of catechin which creates the bitter taste in tea is suppressed and the umami and richness will be emphasized. To steep this tea, prepare your hot water (or cool off to) 50 ℃ so that the tea leaves are soaked and wait for 2 minutes. Please enjoy the traditional taste and aroma that spreads in your mouth.

This superior hojicha from the NaturaliTea cooperative in Fujieda, Shizuoka was made by carefully roasting ichibancha (first harvest) leaves in May at a high temperature. Compared to hojicha that is made from summer or autumn leaves, this hojicha can be characterised as mild, with a rich and elegant flavor. The aroma when you open the bag is a delicious chocolate.

To make this premium gyokuro, a shelf is built over the tea bushes and straw woven with straw is spread over the entire tea fields. This method is considered one of the traditional shading methods to make gyokuro and is quite rare these days! After being shaded for 20 days, the tea leaves are harvested. By shading for a long period of time (which is a typical process to make gyokuro), the growth of catechin which creates the bitter taste in tea is suppressed and the umami and richness will be emphasized.

To steep this tea, prepare your hot water (or cool off to) 50 ℃ so that the tea leaves are soaked and wait for 2 minutes. Please enjoy the traditional taste and aroma that spreads in your mouth.

To make this premium gyokuro, a shelf is built over the tea bushes and straw woven with straw is spread over the entire tea fields. This method is considered one of the traditional shading methods to make gyokuro and is quite rare these days! After being shaded for 20 days, the tea leaves are harvested. By shading for a long period of time (which is a typical process to make gyokuro), the growth of catechin which creates the bitter taste in tea is suppressed and the umami and richness will be emphasized.

To steep this tea, prepare your hot water (or cool off to) 50 ℃ so that the tea leaves are soaked and wait for 2 minutes. Please enjoy the traditional taste and aroma that spreads in your mouth.

This fukamushicha from tea garden Shuchi in Morimachi Village, Shizuoka, is made from a single cultivar, the new and still rare Kirari 31, and is the very first harvest in 2022 from a new field.

Refined by Osada Tea, the fukamushicha won the Platinum Medal at the 2022 Nihoncha Awards, held by the Nihoncha (\"Japanese tea\") Instructor's Association. Unlike regional and national tea competitions held throughout Japan featuring the unrefined tea leaves that come from farmers, the Nihoncha Awards accepts entries from farms, factories and sellers that are commercial products, refined teas meant for drinking by consumers. Awards are given out in August judged by a select panel of experts while they over winners in several categories are chosen after tea tastings are held for the general public (several hundred tasters) in December—a people’s choice type of award.

This fukamushicha from tea garden Shuchi in Morimachi Village, Shizuoka, is made from a single cultivar, the new and still rare Kirari 31, and is the very first harvest in 2022 from a new field.

Refined by Osada Tea, the fukamushicha won the Platinum Medal at the 2022 Nihoncha Awards, held by the Nihoncha (\"Japanese tea\") Instructor's Association. Unlike regional and national tea competitions held throughout Japan featuring the unrefined tea leaves that come from farmers, the Nihoncha Awards accepts entries from farms, factories and sellers that are commercial products, refined teas meant for drinking by consumers. Awards are given out in August judged by a select panel of experts while they over winners in several categories are chosen after tea tastings are held for the general public (several hundred tasters) in December—a people’s choice type of award.
